I wake up this morning with a hangover.
A serious hangover.
The serious sort of hangover which makes my brain feel like scrambled eggs rapidly burning on a frying pan.

I slowly pull back my bed comforter.
Then, with equal slowness, I partially ease myself out of bed.
I sit on my butt on the side.
I then place the palm of my hands against the sides of my head.
My purpose is to apply pressure.
Intense pressure.
Praying the pressure would drive the intense head pain away.
I can’t remember why I got drunk last night.
Was it because I couldn't find someone to fuck?
Fuck anyone?
Fuck anything?
Was my sock drawer locked last night?
Who knows?!
But I have things to do that morning.
No serious problems.
But serious enough that I’m seated in the TTC subway heading towards the serious problem that isn’t serious at all.
Perhaps it is seeing me hunched over, my hands still pushing against the side of my head, that catches her attention.
That’s right. Catches her attention.
She sits down beside me and introduces me as Sri Yashoda Mai. With a Hindi – I think Hindi – accent she asks me if I am okay.
I look sideways at her.
Then frown.
Squint then frown again.
She appears to be dressed in a चोली along with ರವಿಕೆ) attire and a concerned look on her face.
It’s a plain face.
No lipstick.
No eyelash.
Not even the slight brush of facial powder.
I swear to God my mother would’ve had a nervous breakdown if she didn’t brush her face with false youth.
I can’t remember what I say to her.
Maybe it is a grunt.
Maybe two.
She then digs into her Potli bag and produces what looks to be a book.
It isn’t Henry Miller’s Tropic of Cancer, I guess.
Nor James Joyce’s Ulysses.
And certainly not Les 120 Journées de Sodome by Marquis de Sade.
Hindi culture does not permit such crasseux books.
Almost everything.
Personally, I love them.
Stimulated, I suppose, by their naughtiness.
She gently pats the book and looks deeply into my eyes.
Compassionately, I suppose.
I nod towards the book resting on her lap.
“What’s that book you have?”
“It’s the Bible.”
“Huh?”
“The word of God.”
“One of the Hindu gods, eh?”
“No. It is the witness for God and Jesus Christ.”
“Jesus Christ?”
“We Mormons believe, and as I quote, ‘that Jesus Christ lived a perfect mortal life to set the ultimate example for us to follow. He became the Messiah, the promised Savior of God's people whose coming prophets had long foretold’.”

I shake my head.
Big mistake.
A thousand fission bombs suddenly explode between my ears.
I immediate grunt, followed by a relieving groan. ....
